Environmental consultancy launches pro bono scheme to benefit charities and staff

The HR chief at an environmental consultancy has spoken of the benefits to staff of being deployed on voluntary projects to help charities.

Workers at WSP Environment and Energy are to give up five working days and five days of their own time over the next year to provide advice to charities for free.

The so-called pro bono programme will help successful applicants from the Charities Facility Management (CFM) Group with issues such as energy and water use, recycling and waste management, site remediation and environmental planning issues.

Paul Newing, HR and training director at WSP, said: "Getting involved in pro bono work is a powerful source of skills training and personal development, and feedback from our staff has been very positive.

"This is a great opportunity to use WSP's talent and expertise to help charities improve their environmental performance."

WSP hopes to support up to 10 charities in the scheme's inaugural year. It is hearing applications from CFM Group members. Those interested should contact David Symons on david.symons@wspgroup.com.
