An HR manager who won £1,000 to spend on training has learned how to coach and supervise others so his skills can be shared with his colleagues.
Andy Symonds, who works for crisp manufacturer Golden Wonder, won the prize at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's (CIPD) conference last year and spent the money on a Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Manufacturing and a Managing Safely course.
Symonds is now qualified to run food hygiene training courses for other employees and, since completing the course in July, has already helped to train 50 of his own staff.
He said: "Not only can I now teach others about food hygiene in the workplace but I feel I have a better understanding of my position within the company, which makes me more effective in my work.
Justine Fosh, executive director of the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink Manufacturing, which sponsored Symonds' award, added: "Comments like those from Andy illustrate the power of continued learning not only to the individual, but also the wider impact it can have within the workplace."
