Seven hundred jobs are set to be created at Peugeot's Coventry plant after existing staff voted in favour of a fourth daily shift.

The extra shift is expected to create a further 700 jobs and boast the plant's chances of surviving the motor industry's global overcapacity crisis.

Sir Ken Jackson, general secretary of Amicus-AEEU, the union which held the ballot, said: "The vote sends signals to the company of the commitment of the workforce."
