Panasonic plans threaten jobs in Wales

Six hundred jobs are under threat at electronics firm Panasonic's Cardiff factory.

The Japanese company - one of Wales's longest-serving inward investors - said the decision had been taken because of overseas competition.

One thousand jobs were lost in a similar move two years ago, when the company transferred production of its TVs and set-top boxes to the Czech Republic.

Junro Nakamura, managing director of parent company Matsushita Electric, said: "We will consult thoroughly with our employees and unions on this issue and regret the concern that will be caused by this proposal."
