The announcement that 90 journalists at the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph newspapers will lose their jobs reflects general uncertainty in media markets

Media workers across the UK face an increasingly uncertain future amid a number of reports of job losses and low morale.

On Friday it emerged that the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph newspapers are axing 90 journalist jobs – 17 per cent of their editorial staff.

The Telegraph Group says the cuts are needed to fund an £150m investment in new printing facilities.

The news followed Pearson’s announcement that the Financial Times is to offer voluntary redundancy to 30 journalists.

And following the takeover of Channel 5 News by BskyB staff face an uncertain future.

Meanwhile, staff at the UK’s biggest broadcasters, BBC and ITV, are awaiting news of redundancies, due to be announced later this year.
