North Wales Police are considering recruiting Polish officers after high levels of immigration from Eastern Europe to Wales.

The force is hoping to better reflect the local community and improve service levels.

Deputy chief constable Clive Wolfendale said: "The Polish community in particular is growing rapidly in this area. The appointment of Polish officers is only one of a number of suggestions under consideration."

The move follows the recent launch of an advisory service for the Polish community. The Open Door project aims to give migrant workers better access to information, including personal safety, environmental health and other related matters.

Some 600,000 Eastern Europeans are estimated to have migrated to the UK since the accession countries joined the EU in 2004.
