New tool from Acas helps employers check they meet information and consultation rules

Conciliation service Acas has launched a tool for businesses to check how they currently share information and consult with their employees.

From 6 April, the information and consultation rules will extend to apply to all businesses with 100-149 employees. This means more employers must consult on issues such as strategic direction, job losses, health and safety or mergers.

The health check takes employers through a range of questions to identify what types of information are shared with employees and through what channels. Users can also find out how their current consultation processes work.

Rita Donaghy, Acas chair, said: “Those workplaces where communication is seen as key and views are valued have the best chances of making a success of their business.

“If everyone is kept up-to-date with developments and know what is required of them, employers can expect greater commitment, increased morale and better performance.”
