Jobseekers admit to lies on CVs to get right job

Two-thirds of the British workforce would lie on their applications to get the job, research has found.

A survey conducted by recruitment site Monster.co.uk, questioning 3,800 people, revealed that four in 10 respondents lie about their reasons for leaving a job, 18% lie about their current salary and 10% about their qualifications.

One-third of candidates said they did not lie.

Rob Brouwer, chief executive officer of Monster UK and Ireland, said: “The fact that you can now e-mail referees, check details in search engines, view company profiles and genuine education details makes everything more transparent.

“Prospective employers are now making detailed reference checks and recognise the potential damage of hiring someone without the skills or experience they claim to have. Jobseekers should understand that they can damage their long-term future with one lie,” he said.
