Institute of Leadership & Management sets up virtual training centre for managers

The Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) has teamed up with JBE Training & Development to launch a virtual training centre for managers.

The new online facility, believed to be the first of its kind, enables learners to 'walk around' in a similar format to online networking phenomenon, Second Life.

According to ILM, the virtual centre cuts out the expense and non-productive time associated with travelling to a 'real world' training course, and users can dip in and out of the course when they please.

Programmes set up within the virtual centre combine video, PowerPoint presentations, images/photographs and written or practical exercises.

The provision of unique learner identities means tailored programmes can be set up, while course delivery and progress is managed by a central server where tutors and delegates can review progress online.

Mark Bowes, marketing manager at JBE said: "We has taken a 'giant leap' in advancing distance learning for ILM qualifications, and this is only the beginning."
