Sir Gerry Robinson kicked off this week's Human Resources Forum on board the Oriana cruiseliner in the English Channel last night with keynote address examining leadership in which he highlighted HR practitioners' tendency to "waffle".

The former chairman and chief executive of Granada, and TV troubleshooter in Can Gerry Robinson fix the NHS?, also shared his distaste for the term 'change management'. Management, by definition, includes managing change, he said.

Robinson was speaking to hundreds of HR practitioners and suppliers about leadership and, in particular, the need for clarity in a good leader.

"I say this particularly to the HR people here today - don't waffle."

Other speakers on the Oriana include futurist and speaker on global trends Anne Lise Kjaer, and adventurer Ben Saunders.

Read 10 tips from Sir Gerry on successful leadership, including how he believes NHS executives are vastly underpaid, on our Editors' blog.
