Victims of workplace accidents are being forced back to work before they are ready because of the rising cost of living, a survey has found.

A phone poll conducted by the National Accident Helpline found more than 55% of respondents said they would return to work early to make ends meet, despite the possibility of worsening health.

More than two-thirds also agreed that their finances have come under increased pressure since their accident, with inflation largely to blame.

National Accident Helpline legal director John Campbell said: "It is worrying that people are potentially putting their health at risk because they are bearing the brunt of financial pressures for which they aren't responsible."
