A set of standards geared towards building respect between different cultures at work will be launched next week.

The National Occupational Standards for Inter-cultural Working are aimed at creating mutual respect, improving communication and workforce relations, and reducing racism when working with people from different countries and cultures.

Approved by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in September, they will provide a benchmark for employers by outlining the skills, knowledge and understanding required by any individual to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

The standards are due to be launched in London next Tuesday (25 November) at an event organised by CILT, the National Centre for Languages, which led the government-funded project to develop the standards.
