Bristol City Council looks set to be the latest local authority to cut jobs to meet a funding shortfall.

Council officials said cuts would be made over the next three years to plug a £30m funding gap. HR jobs are likely to be in the firing line, with reports that managers are looking to make back-office savings.

A number of councils across the UK have made redundancies in the past few months as the recession hits hard. A recent survey found half of all councils planned job cuts in 2009.
