AA pension row leads to pro-strike vote

AA staff have voted to strike in a dispute over pensions.

It is the first time in the vehicle breakdown company's 105-year history that workers have been balloted on national industrial action.

In a vote which closed yesterday 57% of workers voted in for a strike, Channel 4 News reported.

The row has arisen from the company's decision to cap increases in pensionable salary at 2.5%, regardless of individuals' overall salary.

The Independent Democratic Union, representing AA workers, said there was "widespread anger" over the plans.

President of the AA, Edmund King, said consultations to try to resolve the dispute would continue until 23 April, making talk of industrial action premature.

He added that some workers did not vote for strikes as more than 400 were not in the union.
