CIPD/Olympics/Economy/Teaching/The Met

Welcome back - nothing happened in August then!!!!!

Some quick fire comments:

CIPD - is the CIPD really the industry standard bearer?

Not if you see the results of the latest PT poll. Approx 60% say it isn't (with one of the highest voting samples). Mmm.....a few weeks to go to the annual jamboree (I get constant e-mails) and one wonders given some of the comments coming from within exactly the mood of the event. Maybe people have been reading my blog over the past couple of years after all?!

Some developments in this space coming soon - keep your ear to the ground........

The Olympics and more specifically Team GB (sadly already faded from view)

Just to say - a sensational well done!

Particularly cycling, rowing, sailing and swimming - we salute you.....but sadly not track and field athletics.......

Just goes to show that:

REQUIRED INVESTMENT + TALENT + EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT + MEASUREMENT + WILL TO SUCCEED = SUCCESS and everybody wants a part of it...

However, GRUDGING INVESTMENT + LACK OF TALENT + PARTIALLY EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT + WILL  TO ONLY TURN-UP = FAILURE and nobody wants a part of it...

This equation is the same for all funded projects.....pity in our race to host the games we may not find enough ground investment in our athletes (currently £9.3bn versus 600m)......!!!

Economy? What economy?

Have you noticed anything different? Mr Darling has......he's just had his Eureka moment going from absoutely fine to 'we're all doomed' - glad he's got his finger on the pulse(!?). Looks like we were one of the first to forecast impending crunch for 2009/2010.

Given the evidence AD has finally got out of denial only to 'Go over the top'. You really wouldn't want him running a raffle (nor the PM for that matter). Question: what have you been collectively doing for the past twelve months???????

Whatever be sure that next up will be some daft ideas which will only do the economy more harm in the long run......(Remember Northern Rock - the cheque is getting bigger.........)

Teachers

Depressed, stressed ran the headline in yesterday's 'The Observer'.

Despite increased pay, reduced workloads, holidays etc the profession is in crisis with the number of teachers suffering.....and whilst I acknowledge the no doubt challenging work environment they have its no different for many other professions/roles......

Having commented before on the questionable results we still attain in schools - given the above one has to ask - is the system completely broken?

Or (a question for the unions) are we just recruiting the wrong types?

Answers on a postcard......

The Met

Boys, boys - can you please fight it out at the back of the bike sheds away from public view?

Is this what being a 'public servant' of over 20 years does to you?

Whatever is the HR Director thinking - what reputational damage is this whole saga doing?

More answers on a postcard......
