(i) HR - end of an era? and also (ii) the latest web craze

Taking time out from the current refilming of the 'economic Apocalypse Now' to provide today's blog with some serious forward-looking and a little unrelated dark humour doing the rounds on the web.

(i) HR - End of an era?

As a term HR has been with us since the end of the last recession. On the School's HCMI course last week it was noted how people management development (and conversely the stalling of) seemed to coincide with post-recession spurts.

So what happens this time round once we come out the other end? Cue Human capital management? For me - yes - but then I'm bound to say that aren't I?

Well - I've already said that I think HR (as we know it) has reached a cul-de-sac in that too often it has been hijacked (see previous blog entries) - skewed to certain 'causes'.

For those who have read my blog or read my articles in the Journal from time to time I trust that you have seen the argument develop since I'm not going to repeat everything here again today (boringly).

Whatever your opinion you can rest assured that there will be a change. The new era (commencing c. 2010-11) will bring with it new challenges for organisations and human capital management practitioners - no doubt things won't be the same. What do you think?

(ii) The latest web craze

Some of you may have watched the film Downfall regarding Hitler's last days in the 'bunker' brilliantly portrayed by Bruno Ganz. It is quite exceptional on what is always a touchy subject for some.

But now the irreverence of the internet has caught up with some extraordinary 'story mashing' as excerpts from the film have been changed to spoof current events. Different story-lines are popping up regularly in that classic 'life of its own' way.

You can marvel as Hitler' rants about things such as

'Presidential candidate Barack Obama in Berlin'

 'Keagan leaving Newcastle'

and there are many others......

Be warned - some may find the language offensive or hilarious (depending on your point of view).

I'm looking out for the spoofs on:

(i) $700 billion bail out

(ii) hedge funds

(iii) what are we doing at Bradford & Bingley?

(iv) Diversity at The Met

(v) The Top 40 Power Players (!!!)

Something perhaps to make us laugh through some dark times.............?

Have a good day!
