Tesco has announced the expansion of its apprenticeship programme by over 30%, with 3,000 existing staff joining its 2011/12 scheme.
Tesco has also reported that it is receiving around 500 applications a week for its UK graduate schemes for 2012/13 – double the rate of applications received last year.
Over 400 graduates will start schemes at Tesco this year, with a starting salary of between £22,000 and £28,000.
Judith Nelson, Tesco’s UK Personnel Director, said: “At a time when the prospect of unemployment is a genuine concern across the country, we are working hard to create employment and training opportunities.
“This year, we will be welcoming our largest ever intake of new graduates and we are equally committed to developing the careers of our existing staff through our Apprenticeship scheme. Whether you join us straight from school with no formal qualifications or have graduated from university with a first class degree, there is an opportunity to build your career with Tesco.”
