H aRRgh!!

One of our employee's was caught lying about his absence quite spectacularly today.

The employee in question had been calling in sick all week, claiming he was at home in bed with a chest infection.

In reality he has been several hundred miles away in Eastern Europe.

The beginning of my working month is always dominated by compiling the board report for HR.

For most of this year, it's been a pleasurable read, with us performing well on all our KPI's.

However, the last couple of months have taken a strange turn for the worse.

As anyone who has ever had the joy of entering my abode will tell you, while I'm not dirty I am by no means a 'tidy' person.

This was very apparent today during what can only be described as a wholly unnecessary office move.

Communication breakdowns are often cited as factors behind relationships failing.

It is fair to say the current lack of communication in our office could have a similar effect in the work environment.

At the end of this month we have an external audit taking place at work.

The usual fun and games in the run up to this joyous occasion are very much in full swing at the moment.

Rather than get on with doing something vaguely worthwhile and fulfilling, most of us are bogged down in more paperwork than you can shake a stick at.

It seems that we are not the only department in our company with a few communication issues at the moment.

In a meeting with a manager of another department I ended up playing agony uncle as I listened to another tale of woe.

News travel very quickly in the workplace, especially when it’s bad.

Unfortunately, It also tends to become more and more inaccurate the further it gets away from the original source.

Today was a fine example.

A fantastic and long overdue row erupted in our office today.

Having had a recent internal reshuffle of responsibilities, I could tell that there were a few simmering issues developing, but to be frank I was hoping for some entertainment to brighten my day so was quite happy to see things boil over today.

It's not often I get too fussed about anything at work.

Don't get me wrong, I take everything very seriously (well, quite seriously...) and do care deeply (quite deeply...) about what I do.

However, I am not one to take my troubles from the workplace home with me, generally.

There's been a few madcap ideas bandying around our office recently, and today saw quite a gem.

After years of doing very little to help the foreign exchange students and workers who come to work for us at certain times of the year, our Board have now decided that we need to do a lot more.

Today saw the start of our company audit which will last the rest of this week.

Our department will be under the spotlight tomorrow, yet I have felt strangely calm about that prospect for the last few days.

At this stage during audits I'm usually working more hours than should be possible, whilst trying to maintain an air of calm around the office.

I am still very much the 'ice man' within the office, even if I do say so myself.
