Every so often we hold presentations for those who have been unfortunate enough to work here for 10 years.

Basically, we get them a fairly expensive gift, the Directors say a few words, there's a few handshakes, a presentation and a photo to mark the occasion.

What could possibly go wrong?

Usually, nothing of course.

Except on this occasion my boss completely neglected to tell me, the companies resident David Bailey, that there was such a presentation this morning and that therefore I and the company camera would be required.

As the batteries require hours of charging before use, this was something of an issue.

I thought we were going to get away with it when I turned the camera on and there were signs of life. Alas, it was not to be. As I pressed to take the photo, it died a very sudden death.

Not wanting to cause a scene with my boss in front of the Directors, I took the only feasible option I could see... lie and claim everything was fine and that the photo was taken.

If I'm lucky the person who was getting the award will never chase me for the photo...
