Something in the Water

Over the next few weeks we have an abnormally large amount of women going off on maternity leave. Evidently there was something in the water several months ago.

This isn't strictly anything to do with me (particularly the pregnancy part, I would like to assure my partner), but has been causing me a great deal of annoyance this week.

Our payroll officer, who sits in the HR office, has been calling these women up for individual meetings in our office to explain everything to them regarding their maternity leave.

Now, it's not the most straight forward of subjects, but our payroll officer really has no clue what she is talking about and every meeting ends up becoming an increasingly fraught conversation between her and those going on maternity leave, with neither able to understand what the other is on about.

The record so far is 90 minutes, the last 85 of which I spent biting through my tongue in sheer frustration.

Happy days.
