Race Relations Row: A Happy Ending After All?

February 13, 2008

Yesterday it seemed that we were on a one-way path to a race discrimination case, being driven by a manic junior manager seemingly unconcerned by the potential ramifications of his actions.

Today I’m pleased to say that a sensible and positive ending may be in sight.

It didn’t always look like a positive outcome may be possible, even today.

At the start of the day, horns were still locked between the ever-caring HR department and the demonic junior manager, with him refusing to budge on his refusal to interview.

However, we applied some pressure on his manager who in turn exerted his influence upon him, and the interview was able to take place this afternoon.

In fairness to the junior manager, he did do a pretty good job of concealing his lack of interest in the interview when the time came.

Even more surprisingly, by the end of it he was almost won over by the candidate who performed very well in the interview.

Fingers crossed he will now take the sensible and correct step of offering the candidate a job, and we can put the last couple of days behind us.
