The Case of the Audit and the Inevitably Missing Paperwork

Our Finance department had one of their regular audits today to make sure that everything is above board.

Usually this has very little to do with Human Resources, as you would imagine.

Unfortunately that was not the case today.

Whilst my current best friend in payroll was being audited, she inadvertently made herself even more popular with me by randomly selecting one of our new starters to use as an example for the audit.

Of course, everything was fine at her end but then the auditors wanted to see our paperwork for the individual.

Everything was in order, except for a missing job description, which was hardly a surprise. It seemed somewhat inevitable that the random choice would be the one with some missing paperwork.

Whilst it may not really have been the payroll officers fault that she happened to choose a bad example, she infuriated me when she absolved herself of any involvement in what was essentially an audit of her, leaving me to spend most of the afternoon tracking down the job description.

We may have words tomorrow…
