A tricky situation has arisen at work today.
Over the past few weeks, our receptionist has become increasingly suspicious over the amount of times she has to re-credit our franking machine.
As the only person using it, she has a very good idea on its normal usage, so over the past few days she has decided to make a note of the credit level in the machine during the day.
Sadly, this has confirmed that someone is using the machine in between when she leaves for the night and comes back at 8.30am, and obviously not for work purposes.
Even more unfortunately, our suspicions are firmly placed on a close colleague of ours, who has a rather large EBay habit...
We have decided to mention the problems openly in the office, without directly accusing him, to see if this leads to a cessation in the unauthorised use of the franking machine.
If it does, we will have as good as caught him red-handed, which could have serious consequences. Make no mistake, racking up over £5 in 3 days is tantamount to theft. One can only imagine what the total figure is.
In the meantime, it's going to be a difficult few days whilst we monitor the use of the machine.
To paraphrase Elvis, can we go on together with suspicious minds?
