A Hart of Gold: Resisting Pressure to Dismiss an Employee (For Now)

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

It's a Friday, so I'm feeling in a very good mood and want to spread a bit of joy, whether it is through amusing plays on words (see above), or by being kind and considerate towards our employees.

One such employee was facing dismissal today for having an appalling absence record only 2 months in to his job.

There was a bit of a clamour from his management to sit him down today and dismiss him, but I decided to stand up for compassion, and for once it won through.

Don't get me wrong, I haven't gone all soft and he will still be getting his marching orders come Monday, but why ruin his weekend when we can save the pain until after it?

Also, there is the small matter of him having a driving test this afternoon. The thought of adding an extra burden on to him just didn't sit well with me.

Somehow I don't think the person in question will believe I have been so compassionate when he's sat opposite me on Monday...
