Delaying the Inevitable: Doomed Employee Absent (Again)

April 21, 2008

You may recall that I was in a particularly chirpy mood on Friday, sparing an employee from the sack with the plan of doing the deed today.

With a terrible absence rate (with no underlying reasons as far as we can tell), the employee's time with us is very much up.

They, have, however, managed to gain at least one extra days grace...

Somewhat inevitably we have been unable to sack the employee today as they are off sick. Again.

Part of me was tempted to tell them not to bother coming back, but I deemed it prudent to follow process so will bide my time until their return...

I'm guessing that if you're ready to fire this person, they've already been warned that their absenteeism rate is unacceptable, so the fact that it's continuing despite warnings is pretty remarkable. Keep us posted!
