Warm weather causes breakdown in office relations...

As the kind of weather that makes you really wish you weren't in work continued for another day, the effect on the relationships within our office was becoming rather apparent.

It has become a veritable battle of the sexes here, with the opposing groups dividing nicely in to men vs women.

The problem?

Whilst us men want to be sensible and work in a nice, cool office, the women suddenly can't stand any temperature below 30 degrees.

All day it has been a battle, with the men setting the air con to a nicely chilled 22 degrees, only to find that the minute we step out of the office the air con is off and the windows are open.

No one seems to consider that having the windows open is liable to have an adverse effect on anyone suffering with hay fever, as I do.

However, we have had to put our collective feet down this afternoon. Air conditioning will be used on any warm days (anything above 20 degrees outside causes our office to become a sauna), which is tough for the women.

They've been told to bring sweatshirts in, so you can't say we're not a caring bunch...

Air con in the whole of the UK is a complete waste of money. The peak summer temperature often doesn't go beyond 25'C and everyone should be allowed to enjoy the warmth of the sun (get vitamin D and energy) and fresh air whenever possible in the UK! It's a lot more healthy than 22'C from the air con all year. Open your windows and mind!

I sympathize with you. Over in the States, we have been having a drastic heat wave, with our AC broken. Temperatures in the office were oppressive at best. We all were sluggish! It's best to keep the office cool- good for attitude, mood, and productivity!
