Guru hears on the burger vine that McDonalds is recruiting a bunch of tubsters to lend weight to its argument that the dictionary definition of 'McJob'
is unfair.
The definition describes a McJob as "an unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects, esp. one created by the expansion of the service sector".
Guru decided there was only one way to find out and went straight to the heart of the matter - visiting McDonalds outlets and quizzing staff on their view of their glamorous job...
Unfortunately for McJob central - ie, McDonalds - 100% of those questioned said they were doing a 'McJob' and that their job was 'unstimulating'. I use the word unstimulating here in its loosest possible sense, because I couldn't possibly publish what they actually said in a family blog.
Presumably the burger giant is offering Skills envoy Sir Digby Jones, British Chambers of Commerce director general David Frost, British Retail Consortium director general Kevin Hawkins and City & Guilds director general Chris Humphries free happy meals in thanks for their unstinting support.
If they do consume some of the legendary McDonalds product they will find it as full of stimulating content as the website of the organisation's people chief in the UK, David Fairhurst. Not that Guru is in any way suggesting that the content of any burgers is out of date.
Apparently, Clive Betts MP, is backing the burger giant's bid at rewriting the history books and has put down an 'early day motion'. Guru thinks he knows what that means. He often has an early day motion himself.

Maccy D's may campaign to get the McJob definition changed but their own Careers page on their web site seems to implicitly accept that a McJob must be crap.
Their recruitment campaign centres around the phrase "Not bad for a McJob", which to me seems to acknowledge that most people would perceive a McJob as something derogatory.
They seem to have used the OED definition in their own campaign, the McIdiots.
