IT | Geek dating

October 23, 2007

Surely IT employers are completely missing the point with their campaign to get more students to take the subject.

People don’t stay away from the IT degrees because they worry about not getting a seat on the board when they’re 45 – they sign on to geography because that’s where the best girls are.

This leaves just the geekiest boys in IT class, putting off the girls and creating a viscous cycle.

Employers including the BBC, Microsoft and Apple are to take part in a £2.7m project to tempt more young people into IT careers.

The bespectacled boffins will be heading into schools telling horny 17-year-olds about their business needs and the opportunities this will provide them for future career progression.

Meanwhile, D-Cup Lucy walks past the door to double geography, and the battle is over.

Guru suggests that some of the money be spent on bribing pretty girls to go on highly visible dates with computer geeks.

This way the cycle can be broken, the queues to take IT will fill the school corridors and we can all sleep at night knowing that our biggest companies are not facing a huge skills shortage.

Guru is off to brush up on his binary code.

I don't think you paint a pretty picture of why people choose to study any subject. I feel offended by your comments.

The IT industry has a lot of potential and can be great fun to work in. I'd be happy to introduce you to lots of hot geek chicks to prove my point that it's not all about guys with specs.

Yeah give the geeks a fair go. There are some very attractive sociable people out there who happen to also be geeks. Dating is for everyone, and everyone has a suitable mate out there somewhere.

I don't particulaly hang around with such a stereotype, but offend them you will, you just did. Anyone is datable, you just have to find the right person to date. That's why many people divorce these days. Because they presume the dates will work, but they don't, because they all want some certain stereotype. I think it's crazy personally.
