Britain | Poles apart

January 15, 2008

Cor blimey, would you Adam and Eve it? Polish workers are more British than that wot we are.

Guru was rather unsurprised to read, once he found his copy of the Times among the American DVDs, Swedish furniture and Indian cooking sauces at his local hypermarket, that Poles scored higher marks in a British citizenship test than the Brits.

In fact, Finns, Swedes, Germans and Kiwis are all apparently more British than the British, which makes you wonder whether our own kids should have to take citizenship tests when they leave school before they enter the workplace.

Surely only then will we rid our fair nation of all those ne'er do wells who think Winston Churchill sells car insurance, Stratford-upon-Avon is on the end of the central line and King Henry VIII is open until 2am on Saturday nights. Only then might we put the Great back in Britain, and create a country that is worth having a citizenship test to enter.

Well, Guru has to go, it's time to teach his Swedish Au pair about Big Ben...
