29 February: as strange as ever

February 29, 2008

Happy Leap Day, disciples. Have any of you been down on bended knee to your commitment-phobe boyfriends? How about you, ladies?

Traditionally, of course, 29 February was seen as a day beyond English law, one where anything goes and the impossible became the norm. Looking around today, Guru feels that not much has changed.

It's a very strange day. Ladies are proposing, Spurs are celebrating winning a trophy, a member of the Royal family is doing some real work. It does appear that the Leap Day tradition lives on.

So what have HR professionals been up to with their extra day? Have you been ensuring that traditional roles in the workplace are reversed?

Guru would love to hear from disciples what they did or witnessed in their workplace on 29 February.

Perhaps IT-support staff responded in an easy-to-understand and non-patronising manner to systems queries.

Did senior executives show interest in something that was happening at the coalface of their business?

Surely work experience placements did not experience work rather than being asked to make the tea and open the post?

HR professionals, of course, have plenty of traditional roles of their own to overcome on a Leap Day. Did you manage it? Let Guru know by posting on this blog or emailing guru@personneltoday.com.
