Office sex appeal: skirting around the issue

May 29, 2008

Guru always thought of himself as an extremely tolerant sort of chap - but now research has proved it.

According to a survey by leadership and development consultancy the Aziz Corporation, "men are much more tolerant than women of very short skirts at work".

Oh yeah, Guru is tolerant alright. Just the other morning, he tolerated a very short skirt twice before he'd had his breakfast.

Yours Truly is certainly proud to be one of the 34% of men liberal and understanding enough to put up with bottom-skimming work attire. Only 16% of women are so tolerant - presumably the 16% who wear them.

In other hold-the-front-page news, men in their 40s were found to be appreciate low cut tops in the office more than women of a similar age. Of course, whether its women of that age that men in their 40s want to see in low-cut tops is another matter entirely.

However, fear for the credit crunch. If the economic downturn worsens, many workers will smarten themselves up, they told the Aziz Corporation. Guru for one would be gutted to have fewer thighs and breasts to tolerate in the morning. It makes the rising fuel costs and plummeting house prices pale into insignificance.

Professor Khalid Aziz - clearly one of those intolerant types - said: "The office is not a catwalk, and it is desirable to be noticed for your professionalism rather than for your mini-skirt.

"Even if half of your colleagues wouldn't bat an eyelid, the thought of the other half questioning your sartorial decisions should be enough to put off any career-minded dresser. As a rule, conservative clothing will always be the wiser option if boundaries are unclear."

Guru is off to his local night spot to do some serious tolerating.
