Google: fit for a queen?

September 15, 2008

With the CBI reporting today that the UK is entering a recession, Guru understands that times are tough. But have things got so bad that even the queen is looking for a job?

Apparently Ma'am is to visit Google's headquarters to meet staff at the internet search giant that recently won the title of best place to work in the UK. Has Google's employer brand become so strong it is fit for a queen?

Well, if she does fancy a job, Lizzie can look forward to free meals at all times of the day, a complimentary bike and "only having to work hard 70% of the time".

However, she better be in it for the long haul - the company has a policy of waiting several years to fill vacancies if the right person has not been found. And the competition is fierce - 250 applicants for every job.

But Guru is sure the Queen's regal standing and modern outlook - she reportedly emails Zara Phillips "regularly" - will see her through the recruitment process and into the hallowed halls of Google.

Then HR director Liane Hornsey really would have some talent management issues on her hands.
