Unlikely times call for unlikely superheroes

October 1, 2008

Things have been looking pretty bad of late, what with Northern Rock, Lehman Brothers and HBOS all falling victim to the knee-jerk boys working down in the stock market panic station.

And as that sweaty monkey over the pond tries to juggle the half-eaten bag beans that are the American fiscal system - while simultaneously eating a banana - as the world's fat-cats watch their world fall off its axis and spin out of control, the Earth is is bad need of a hero.

Unfortunately, Guru is a tad busy at the moment - siphoning off cash to his Bulgarian bolthole - but he notes that an unlikely upholder of tradition is aiming to do the right thing by bending the ear of the stars and stripes primate and all his cronies in the house of representatives.
It turns out that the CIPD has got out its cloak and John Philpott is wearing his underpants outside his tights and has picked up the big red telephone to the White House.

It seems the good folk at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development can influence the outcome of the credit crunch on account of having a direct line to the gunslinging dope.

Quite what he'll be saying, Yours Truly can only speculate guess:

"Err, hello Mr Bush, now look here you American. The world is in trouble, so could you... um just focus for a minute or two... I realise that will be hard... But could you just, perhaps, get on and sort out all this mess... there's a good chap."

That should do it. God bless the CIPD.
