The boob jobs market that is...
Blair and Brown always promised to do away with the boom and bust economics of the past. News today makes Guru feel compelled to jump to their defence as New Labour finds itself in these unprecedented financial times. For now there is a bust boom.
Yes folks, boob jobs are on the up. Not just boob jobs but plastic surgery generally, according to figures released today. Breast "augmentation" was once again the most popular procedure for women with 8,439 performed (up 30% on 2007) last year.
It appears however it's not only the fairer sex who are concerned about the size of their assets. "Moob" jobs are up even more (44%); thankfully though these are procedures involve breast reduction, with 323 chaps going under the knife.
Disciples looking for the HR angle will find one in news that chiefs at Tameside Council in Greater Manchester are considering allowing workers time off for boob jobs and the like.
Cosmetic surgery as well other non-essential procedures such as laser eye treatment, and vasectomies, could be covered by the draft policy says the Mirror.
Perhaps Tameside should reconsider in the light of the burgeoning demand for a fuller bust.
So where did these "official figures" come from, which grand institution releases the data behind this new pair of economic indicators? The figures were released by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastics Surgeons or "BAAPS".
(Having frequented a few med school parties many years ago, Guru can reliably inform you that that pun was intended. They couldn't go for BAPS because that had already been taken)
