News reaches Guru of innovative new recruitment tactics from a company called Peer1.
The firm "offers a reliable high performance Internet network supporting scalable managed hosting, dedicated hosting through the ServerBeach brand, and co-location solutions". Guru has no idea what this means but it sounds impressive.
Peer1 says it is prepared to pay off new recruits who don't make the grade after two weeks in a job. The £1,000 'Foxtrot Oscar' money will be paid to any new employee who wants to quit their job within a fortnight.
Dominic Monkhouse, managing director at Peer1, said (excitedly): "If you are the most driven, ambitious, enthused, charming and downright brilliant candidate out there, we'll give you a great job in a cool office, pay you a good salary, and give you endless self-development opportunities.
"For that reason I am offering any new employee £1,000 cash to leave in the first two weeks. This way only those employees who really get it, who are thoroughly and wholeheartedly committed to raising the standards in hosting and service to the highest level will stay."
Guru thinks Mr Monkhouse might be slightly unhinged, but applauds him for his bluesky thinking. However, he might be inviting all manner of crackpots to apply for jobs at his firm on the hope of getting two weeks' pay with a nice juicy grand on top.
Why pay them any money? Guru reckons if they're not up to the job, just give them the push (no unfair dismissal or redundancy pay after just two weeks...). Let's revisit this in a few weeks and see how Peer1 is doing.
