As it was, the article was about council 'non-jobs', which the paper and its friend the Taxpayers Alliance (who both basically want Jeremy Clarkson to run the country and everything to be privatised) found outrageous and another excuse to attack the PC-brigade.
Now Guru dislikes political correctness as much as the next bloke, and some of the jobs sound pretty ridiculous when said out loud: trampoline coaches, befriending co-ordinator. breastfeeding peer support co-ordinator, composting supervisor and (Guru's favourite) part-time sword bearer.
"There has been a huge boom in the number of unnecessary and bizarre jobs in local government in recent years," said Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance.
Guru reckons there has been a huge boom in the number of unnecessary soundbites and stories in recent years from the Taxpayers' Alliance.
If you look close enough at any organisation you will find jobs that are a waste of money, and Guru feels this is not something entirely limited to the public sector. In Guru's experience you could probably get rid of half the (better paid) managers in any given organisation and there would no discernible impact on performance.
In fact, productivity would likely rise.
Wow, Yours Truly has just realised he has mounted a defence of the public sector. Best go for a lie down as he is probably sickening for something.

Be careful ... someone may decide an HR Guru is an unnecessary role and a waste of money!
