Stinky fridge causes office evacuation

May 18, 2009

Disciples will have all experienced the parallel universe that is the office fridge.

Food seemingly remains forgotten and untouched for weeks on end, decomposing slowly but surely. Certain items (usually milk) will have stickers on them, declaring ownership and warning off colleagues from daring to touch them.

Guru admits that he used to steer well clear of the office fridge, as who knows what horrors lurk within?

And with good reason as well, as news reaches Yours Truly of a Californian call centre being evacuated and seven workers hospitalised after the office fridge was cleared out.

The stench of rotting food was so bad that firefighters had to clear the AT&T building in San Jose.

Seven workers were taken to hospital and another 28 taken ill after a worker decided it was time to clean out the mini-fridge. The mixture of old food and two different cleaning chemicals caused a noxious stench and led to mass vomiting and nausea.

The cleaning culprit apparently didn't need any treatment as she she can't smell because of allergies. So she was happily scrubbing away while all around her her colleagues were gasping for breath.

That's one sure fire way of stopping the guy in accounts from using your milk.
