HR's town hall rich unmasked

April 7, 2010

Good to see strong HR representation on the Taxpayers' Alliance annual Town Hall Rich List - which details local government bods earning more than six figures.

There are now about 1,250 people in the sector taking home over £100,000 per year, with 31 trousering more than PM Gordon Brown - an increase of 63%. Clearly this transparency lark is having little effect on town hall executive pay levels.

A quick peruse down the list sees some names familiar to readers of Personnel Today enjoying plenty of our hard earned cash. What irks Yours Truly is that for all this talk of councils desperate to make savings, improve efficiency and cut back on services, salaries have continued to rise for senior staff.

However, Guru is sure HR's well remunerated public servants will be earning every single penny in the months ahead as they make tough decisions on where to swing the axe.
