So perhaps it's best to be prepared. At least that's the view of Robert Vicino, the founder of a Californian-based company that specialises in luxury underground shelters. The Vivos complexes are "airtight, self-contained, blast-proof shelters" that can withstand nuclear bombs, chemical attacks, natural disasters. Basically anything that Mother Nature or Man can throw at them.
More than 1,000 people have applied for a place in the 30ft deep bunkers - at a cost of £33,000 each. Each holds enough supplies for 200 people to survive for a year. Vicino says he wants a diverse group of people as possible to apply - from doctors to plumbers.
Hang on, what about HR people? You would need someone to mediate and resolve any conflict between residents, assess which individuals worked well together, build teams and boost morale.
A vital role, surely? Let's have a whip round to find the cash and apply for a place in the luxury armageddon abode. Yours Truly will put in a tenner, and when we get to the total we'll have a vote as to who in HR we should send. Guru votes for David Fairhurst.
