HR winners, but also losers, at Birmingham

May 20, 2010

Guru was surprised to see the HR team at Birmingham City Council win a Public Sector People Managers' Award for 'HR Efficiency and Business Impact'.

This would be the same HR team that oversaw a discriminatory bonus scheme which has now resulted in a multi-million pound payout to thousands of low-paid women. That's certainly a 'business impact' of sorts in Guru's eyes.

The council's workforce planning initiative - for which it won the award - will save an estimated £7m a year. That money will no doubt be put to good use funding compensation for the cleaners, cooks and care assistants it underpaid for years.

Pictured here is the winning HR team - just out of shot is an angry mob wielding mops and scenting blood.
