Hospital staff thanked with Kitkat vouchers

Staff at Torbay Hospital might reasonably have expected to receive some token of thanks from management after winning the prestigious Acute Healthcare Organisation of the Year award at the Health Service Journal awards… and they were not disappointed!

Well, that’s not strictly true. As Guru knows all too well, you can’t please everybody all of the time, and Torbay Hospital’s management discovered this when they rewarded staff with a voucher for a Kitkat in their payslips – that’s a voucher for each member of staff, not one for them all to share. Despite this generous and nuanced gesture from management, some complained that this was insulting, especially as management had treated themselves to a meal in celebration. It has not been confirmed that this meal did not consist entirely of Kitkats – until it is, it’s very difficult to say whether the staff have a case or not.

Guru has been through a similar experience, having won (several years back) the internal award for team of the year for his little group of HR stars. Not wanting to insult his staff with some paltry offer, Guru treated himself to a meal at The Ivy and made the effort to share the moment with all his staff by including a picture of himself enjoying an evening of indulgence in their payslips.
