Which of these subjects can you not combine with HR management for an undergraduate degree at some of the UK's burgeoning number of universities: Forensic Studies? Waste Management? Dance? Festival Management? Music? Abuse Studies? Geography?
See below for the answer. It all goes to show that long gone are the days when HR was a definite no-no as a university subject – a golden age some would say. Nowadays there are more HR degree courses then you can shake a high potentials list at and they can be combined with any manner of topics.
The answer is, of course, geography. Manchester Metropolitan University offers a BA in Abuse Studies and HR Management - course director M de Sade and very handy when it comes to disciplinary issues.
Or, should you think HR is something best done while strutting your Michael Flatley stuff. Sunderland University offers Dance with HR Management.
The University of Keele offers HR Management and Music while Napier University Edinburgh pushes the envelope with Festival Managament and HR - useful when organising the departmental team building day. Some of our newer universities seem positively obsessed with HR. Northampton University (I didn't know it existed either) runs 66 courses where HR can be combined with other worthy subjects, for example, waste management studies. This will offer, I feel, a fresh perspective on redundancies and lay-offs.
Running Northampton close is Sunderland University which offers 62 degrees where HR can be linked with other subjects, for instance criminology - where Reggie Kray meets David Ulrich. I'd say that's a must for any HRer keen on talent management and a seat on the board.
Of course there's only one way this is going - more of this joint honours madness. Mystic Charlton predicts combinations of aromatherapy and HR, woodland management and HR and traditional Chinese medicine and HR. And the University of the North Cicular Road, Neasden campus is considering Bendy Bus Maintenance and HR Studies - things can only get madder.
