Teaching bosses have been hopping about at the NUT annual conference in Manchester showing more productivity than the Easter Bunny himself.
Along with the promise of more strike threats, teachers have vowed to stop military recruitment campaigns in schools that promote pro-war "propaganda" to teenagers.
Teachers are accusing the http://www.mod.uk/defenceinternet/homeMoD of offering monetary payments to youngsters known as 'salaries' or 'wages' as well as 'opportunity' and 'adventure'.
The National Union of Teachers (NUT) voted to back staff who resist Armed Forces recruitment drives and called for "education for peace" to be embedded in the school curriculum.
Education for peace? Who is going to fight the next terrorist threat, or an invasion into the UK when teachers run around with long hair and Jesus robes spreading the word of education for peace man?
What kind of talk is that? As it is the UK immigration is having trouble keeping terrorists out of the UK, see Omar Bakri Mohammad and his mates for further reference.
I honestly believe that the MoD does not purposefully enter schools to recruit killing machines. It offers young people a chance to enter a military career, whether it be a soldier, an engineer, or a doctor.
And of course I would expect the MoD to pay me a salary if I enlisted, and I would also expect 'opportunity' and 'adventure', like any career. Hell, I would demand it!
Paul McGarr, a delegate from east London, told the conference: "Personally, I find it difficult to imagine any recruitment material that is not misleading.
"Join the Army and we will send you to bomb, shoot and possibly torture fellow human beings in other countries. 'Join the Army and be sent - probably poorly equipped - into situations where people try and shoot you and kill you because you are occupying their countries.'
"When I see the MoD putting out recruitment material saying that, then maybe I won't have a problem with using it in school. Until then, I think that all recruitment material is misleading and should be opposed."
Come off it Mr McGarr, take off those tinted round spectacles and swat away the white doves. Yes joining the army involves shooting and killing as a means of defending ones self and ones country's beliefs. The rest of what you say is merely your view...and frankly should not be heard by so many as it misleading in itself.
It would be naive to think that school going youngsters don’t already know what goes on when a country is at war. Kids watch the tele, they read the papers, the news and even play video games with war themes, and killing at the core.
The Ministry of Defence denied that it actively recruited pupils in schools. Brigadier Andrew Jackson, Commander of the Army Recruiting Group, said: "The single-Service schools teams visit about 1,000 schools a year, only at the invitation of the school. Their aim is to raise the general awareness of the Armed Forces in society, not to recruit.
"We are proud of the work we do with schools and colleges to inform young people about the tremendous work and careers on offer, which can provide fantastic and unique opportunities to a wide range of people from all sectors of society," he said.
