Make others jealous of your achievements

All eyes are on Google, as it was officially named this week as the best organisation to work in by the Great Place to Work Institute.

And no doubt you'll be looking on with a touch of the green-eyed monster. As many organisations struggle to hire because of a lack of quality applicants, there's plenty more who would die for the one million job applications that Google receives each year.

But while your company's line of work might never have candidates queueing up at your door, there's always a thing or two we can learn from the winners in terms of maximising motivation and employee engagement.

Like most things, it's a combination of factors that makes an organisation a great place to work, but those which truly value trust and innovation are the ones staying ahead of the game.

OK, so you can't tick every box, but isn't it about time you took some credit for your efforts?

With the deadline for entries for this year's Personnel Today Awards less than a week away, and with a choice of 14 categories to enter, don't miss the opportunity to shout about your achievements in those areas where you have really made a difference. Our awards are not only about achievement, but also about improvement.

And now it's your turn to rate your own HR department. Following last year's inaugural success, we've also launched the 2008 Personnel Today Best Places to Work in HR Awards in association with Courtenay HR.

These special awards are designed to give HR departments the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment and value to their organisations, as voted by the HR professionals that work in them. And there's no excuse for not entering as we have made it even easier for large organisations to participate.

So strive for excellence, prove that you are the best and take part today.
