England expects: legal aid

Some solicitors in East Anglia - well three apparently - have banded together to form a legal unit at the English Lobby (EL) - a campaign group which, it says, promotes England and Englishness, a task worthy of Hercules, some would say.

The aptly named Alan England, of Norwich - or could it be Alan Norwich of England?-  who heads the unit said: "For too long the protections provided by race relations legislation have not been enforced by English people. The English Lobby aims to right that wrong by providing access to free legal advice and assistance for all those aggrieved by anti-English discrimination."

The group aims to raise cash by fighting cases where it judges people have been discriminated against because they are English. Robin Tilbrook, an Essex solicitor who is EL director,  said it is looking at 10 cases of anti-English discrimination which they're examining. Is one of them from Steve McClaren? After all he was discriminated against because he couldn't get the England team to the Euro 2008 football finals. And what of the Eurovision "song" contest? Is there a more blatant example of anti-Englishness this side of Glasgow? I doubt it. OK I know it's a British entry but those fancy-dan Continentals who give our boys and girls barely a point, call everyone from these isles English anyway.

But back to Tilbrook: He said that the lobby helped win an out of court settlement of £2,000 on behalf of an English woman who was turned down for a job with an Essex direct marketing firm "because she was English."

"During the interview the manager said her CV stated the applicant was English and he said she should say she was British. She said no 'I'm English' and she didn't get the job. The manager was Irish. We sent a Race Relations Act questionnaire and they settled for £2,000."

The EL is also tackling what it sees as an anti-English advertisement for a clothing and perfume line called Dirty English produced by US company Juicy Couture. It complained to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), said Tilbrook, which decided the advert didn't denigrate the English.

He said EL would press its claim against the ASA and Juicy Couture. He added "If you said for example, 'Dirty Jew' as a product name, the ASA would be down on you."

Well yes it probably would. But then the English haven't suffered 2,000 or more years of persecution.

SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE ANOTHER ENGLISHMAN WITH HIS HEAD IN THE SAND,ANTI-ENGLISHNESS IS A REALITY,PEOPLE IN YOUR POSITION SHOULD BE PROMOTING ENGLAND (ASSUMING YOU ARE ENGLISH) NOT MAKING LIGHT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE ATTEMPTING WIN THIS COUNTRY THE RESPECT IT WELL DESERVES.

english_republic:

There are no doubt examples of serious discrimination against the English which need to be addressed. However, the English Lobby makes itself look absolutely ridiculous by pursuing things such as the last example.

Will Hanlon:

Nice to see people ready to assist the English for once, anti Englishness is everywhere if one opens ones eyes, our current ruler in downing street is a real supporter of it hence the complete lack of devolution for England and the appalling Barnett Formula being allowed to exist amongst all the other Anti-English stealth taxes, your `Tongue in cheek`style of reporting denigrating the actions of the solicitors doesnt do you credit or work anymore nor is it amusing, maybe ten years ago but not now when the reality of Anti-Englishness is all around and ordinary folk are the victims of it,shame on you.

"comments and insight on human resources" This article is a over a year old. Have you changed your mind in the last year.?

Andy:

Anglophobia has been going on since 1066.
The Harrying of the north, genocide of the English
Removal of our English StEdmund for StGeorge
English empire rebranded British empire
The inequality of Devolution
Inequality of the Barnett formula
Programmes like 100% English and mongrol nation
Books by authors like Oppenhiemer
Refusal to allow England an English anthem
Labour admits to spending less then £500 on StGeorges day events
Our English flag constantly branded Racist
Attacks on English and Englishness by Scots and Welsh are well documented

Maybe we English have been discriminated against far longer then people like yourself, lacking any perception of English pride realises
