Road safety webinar for employers

- influential speakers from leading organisations -

A free road safety webinar, organised by Brake and supported by Specsavers and the Brain Injury Group, is being offered to businesses and organisations. The webinar will take place at 10am on Thursday 20th September, and will provide attendees with ideas to help them get involved in Road Safety Week 2012, which takes place 19 - 25 November.

Employers will be able to listen to best practice case studies from organisations involved in Road Safety Week last year, discover what opportunities they have had by supporting Road Safety Week and how their employees and businesses have benefited. The webinar will also provide an overview of the support which Brake can provide to organisations during Road Safety Week, to help them promote road safety within their organisations and local communities.

The webinar will last 35 minutes, and speakers will be:
• Tracey Scarr, fleet & road safety manager at Arval-BNP Paribas Group
• Mark Dixon, SHEQ plant manager at Morrison Utility Services
• Lynne Shacklock, head of marketing and communications at Balfour Beatty Fleet Services
• Will Murray, research director at Interactive Driving Solutions
• Rachel Haydon, airside safety practices officer, BAA
• Martin Howard, acting head of corporate fundraising at Brake

Jim Lythgow, director of strategic alliances at Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, says: "We are encouraging employers to dial in to find out how they can work with Brake during Road Safety Week and beyond, and to raise awareness about road safety within their own organisation and the wider community. In previous years, businesses and organisations have found participation in Road Safety Week very rewarding in terms of boosting morale, improving employee safety and making a positive difference to their community."

Julie Townsend, deputy chief executive of Brake, says: "Road Safety Week is all about communities, organisations and schools taking action and showing their support for safer roads. Employers can play a key role in helping to make Road Safety Week a success, by spreading life-saving road safety awareness among their staff, customers and contacts. There are some incredibly simple but high-impact ways to get involved, which this webinar will outline, and it's also an opportunity to launch or publicise year-round road risk and community engagement programmes. We're calling on organisations everywhere to register to take part now."

To book a free place for the webinar, contact Brake on 01484 559909 or at

Employers can also find out more about Road Safety Week, and register for a free action pack, at www.roadsafetyweek.org.uk.

The increased risk for those who drive in the course of their work:
• The Occupational Road Safety Alliance estimates that up to a third of road collisions, equalling around 1,000 deaths and 10,000 serious injuries a year, involve people driving in the course of their work.
