Teambuilding | Smells like team spirit

sh-teambuilding.jpg Got a problem in your team? No worries. Just organise a team bonding exercise to discover what your colleagues are really made of. I've highllighted some wacky teambuilding suggestions.

I recently road tested three separate teambuilding events. I learnt how to juggle and mastered the trapeze in a Circus Skills training day, took part in a treasure hunt, and attended a conference with 160 senior manager delegates, which involved creating a symphony orchestra by learning to play a piece of music in just 90 minutes.

You could do the same. Here are some other wacky teambuilding ideas:

Shipwrecked in Cornwall
Participants are shipwrecked on a deserted beach and must work together to achieve set goals and targets. Highlights include shelter building, abseiling and zip wire (or flying fox) in the confines of the beach.

Simulated space missions, National Space Centre, Leicester
Teams take on the roles of mission control and spacecraft crew and must work together to gain vital data for future research by building and sending out a robotic probe.

Sheepdog handling with corporate collies, West Yorkshire
Delegates are able to draw parallels with the canine world and look at the way they work with others in their own work environment.

The Handbag Bar, Carnaby Street, London
Design, create and market your own handbag.

Greenwood Days, Leicestershire
Using what natural material is around you, construct a shelter that will protect your team from the elements.

Share your wacky teambuilding days out and let's see who has experienced the best team event ever. We'd love to hear your stories and even see photo evidence if you dare.

BLOGATHON CHALLENGE QUESTIONS
1. Should there not be greater provisions for office sports in the workplace? I'm thinking things to do at your desk, call it teambuilding; like office basketball (only balls of paper and a bin needed) and the office coffee endurance challenge (who actually can drink the most coffee before lunch?).
2. What's the best teambuilding event you've ever attended, and why?

I'm into sport but not into the idea that "office sports" will do anything for teambuilding.

Who do we need to compete with at work? Probably not each others...

What about those that aren't into that sort of thing? Will they be ostracised for non-participation?

Where's the opportunity for learning? What's the relevance to the team and their purpose?

Social club (quasi offical) much better than 'corporate'... Best social event? - disco after 800 people lost their jobs

Christened the Redun Dance!

Context context context dress for the situation. Dress 'communicates' and its the way its receieved that counts. I turned up for a job interview for a large corporate having worked in the games industry where smart casual was the norm. BIG NO NO - head honcho nearly collapsed!!
