Yesterday evening I attended an event hosted by Paul McKenna, most famously known for his TV presence as a stage hypnotist, but who now runs a training company. McKenna claims he can use neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to help individuals and managers become more effective leaders.
In the corporate training page of his website, McKenna says:
"Employers worldwide already see the benefit in developing interpersonal skills with emotional intelligence training including principles that recognise and use powerful language patterns to empower. It also includes training to make the most of the non-verbal sides of communication – how to fine tune your senses and be more sensitive to others in order to achieve successful outcomes.NLP isn’t just about the improving the individual employee, it’s designed to make you a better manager teaching you how to deliver internal training, manage, motivate, inspire and negotiate more effectively, in the process decreasing stress levels, and lowering absenteeism. All of these techniques lead to a healthier working environment. All of this means improved profitability."
In the room, there were around 30 to 40 delegates and he made us all do a group exercise to demonstrate the power of NLP. He made us team up in pairs and we had to name ourselves A or B. He then instructed all 'A's in the room to imagine a really stressful event and using various techniques with the aid of B, taught us how to bring the stress levels down so that we no longer felt threatened by our negative feelings.
Almost everyone in the room felt the impact of this exercise and as I left the room, I wanted to learn more. After his presentation, I searched for his PR and we've decided to meet up in the next couple of weeks to find interview angles with Paul McKenna and how he uses NLP to influence his clients in the workplace

When I was leading over 200 people I decided to train in NLP to develop my leadership performance. I found it to be one of the best development programmes I had ever attended. It developed my confidence, communication skills, and in addition my emotional resilience. I think all senior leaders should give this a go.

I guess regardless of what they do in life, lot of the majority of NLP participants are finding NLP vastly effective and fulfilling ways to live their lives.
