Gadget dependence

It's hardly a surprise to hear that the mobile phone is Britain's favourite gadget. Everyone from primary school kids to pensioners has them, and you'd have to be somewhere fairly remote to escape hearing other people's conversations. But what other gadgets would we struggle to do without?

Consumer website which.co.uk has come up with a list of gadgets that we feel have changed our lives:

1. Mobile phone
2. Laptop
3. MP3 player
4. Digital camera
5. Satnav
6. DVD player
7. Washing machine (were the survey's respondents all men? Shouldn't this be higher?)
8. Vacuum cleaner
9. Microwave
10. Games console

And the gadgets we don't like - something to bear in mind when shopping for wedding presents:

1. Foot spa
2. Bread maker
3. Food processor
4. Steamer
5. Ice cream maker
6. Electric carving knife
7. Coffee maker
8. Smoothie maker
9. Electric toothbrush
10. Orange peeler

It makes you wonder, though, how people would cope without their gizmos. And it may even go someway towards explainer why the next generation seem to have trouble thinking for themselves.
