One important function of modern trade unions in the workplace is in the provision of tailored educational programmes that are driven by the needs of the employees. It is driven by what individual trade union members ask for in terms of education, rather than employers training needs, so it is a major force in encouraging people to develop their skills and has many positive outcomes for both individuals and employers.
